Hanoi Hilton, at the American Heritage Museum, 2023

The American Heritage Museum, now a world-class museum, inherited many artefacts after the demolition of the French colonial prison, nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton, in which American flyers were incarcerated – some for many years – during the Vietnam War. I was invited back to the museum, another collaboration with Boston Productions, to reconstruct two cells, using original bricks, floor slabs, doors, grilles and shackles from the now demolished prison. The project required particular sensitivity and accuracy. Several veterans were involved in the process and later attended the opening, declaring our work to be very faithful and respectful of their experiences.
