My most treasured project… Here we told the story of the Seminole War of 1841, using three intricate turntables, scrim reveals, immersive scenery and cast figures. Fully automated, with special film production involving dozens of re-enactors and Seminole actors, this was a wonderful project, that I took from writing the draft script, conceiving and designing the theatre, constructing the scenery – to tying thousands of leaves onto the recreated live oak trees!
The theatre frequently still receives applause at the end of the 16 minute presentation, unusual for an automated piece of story telling. But the story is well written and imaginative, bringing out the emotional story of Coacoochee’s dilemma: save his people or stand and fight. The Seminole Nation love the theatre that tells one of their most important stories. The museum acknowledges that this is STILL their centrepiece attraction.
