The American Heritage Museum, which opened in May 2019, is a world-class collection of military vehicles, now on display at the Collings Foundation in Stow, Massachusetts. I was involved in the museum development from its early days in January 2015 through to opening. My main commission, after assisting in the original concepts, sketches, models and development of stories, was to produce an immersive WW1 trench theatre. It’s become a major attraction at the AHM, with specially made film and archive footage, a walk-down trench complete with vibrating floor and mortar fire, dug-outs, shell holes, a REAL First World War tank (that was driven into the theatre!) and a real WW1 ambulance. The story is told by a Bostonian nurse, based on real-life Helen Dore Boylston.
